1. Acceptance of Terms

By accessing or using the Occam Technology website ("the Site"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree with any part of these terms, please do not use the Site.

In these terms, "we", "us" and "our" mean Occam Technology Pty Ltd, trading as Occam Technology, of Adelaide, South Australia. This is the entity you contract with for any data, licence or services supplied through the Site.

2. Description of Services

Occam Technology provides an online platform for browsing petroleum well log data, requesting quotes for data services, and submitting inquiries. Our services include well data browsing, digitisation, quality control, and data reformatting. The Site is informational in nature and facilitates inquiry-based engagement with our team.

3. Intellectual Property

Different parts of what you see here are owned differently, so we set them out separately:

  • Original source records. Some underlying well records originate from government repositories or third parties and remain subject to their own terms. We do not claim ownership of those source documents.
  • Our curation. The metadata we create, our quality-control annotations, our geoscientist summaries, the cleaned and transformed files we produce, and the selection and arrangement of the database are the property of Occam Technology Pty Ltd.
  • The Site itself. Text, graphics, logos, interfaces and software are the property of Occam Technology Pty Ltd or its licensors.
  • Your material. Information you supply to us remains yours. We use it only to respond to your enquiry and to deliver work you have engaged us for.

Except as permitted in section 4, you may not reproduce, distribute, or create derivative works from our curation or the Site without our prior written consent.

4. Permitted Use, Automated Access and AI

You may use the Site for lawful, professional purposes. We deliberately keep our catalogue open to search engines, AI assistants and automated clients, because we would rather be found. The line we draw is between the descriptive catalogue, which is public, and the well log data itself, which is licensed.

Permitted without asking us:

  • Search engine indexing of any public page
  • Retrieval and citation of public pages by AI assistants and answer engines
  • Use of public catalogue metadata, including as input to AI systems and for model training
  • Automated access to our public API endpoints, within the published rate limits and without circumventing them

Requires a licence from us:

  • Bulk extraction or systematic replication of the catalogue, in whole or in substantial part, including building a competing or derivative database from it
  • Any use of the well log data, curve data, or well data summaries themselves, as distinct from the descriptive catalogue. These are supplied under section 7 and are not made available through the public API
  • Redistribution, resale or republication of purchased data

Not permitted:

  • Attempting to gain unauthorised access to any part of the Site or its systems
  • Evading rate limits, or automated access at a volume that degrades the Site for others
  • Using the Site in any way that could damage, disable, or impair its operation

5. Data Accuracy

Well data presented on this Site is sourced from historical records and has undergone quality control processes. However, we provide this data on an "as is" basis and do not warrant that it is complete, accurate, or fit for any particular purpose. Historical well log records may contain errors or omissions from their original sources. You should independently verify any data before making decisions based on it.

6. Quotes and Inquiries

Quotes provided through the Site or via email are indicative and not binding. All engagements for data services, digitisation, or other work are subject to a separate written agreement between you and Occam Technology.

7. Data Use Licence (Purchased Data)

Where Occam Technology Pty Ltd supplies digital well log data, Well Data Summaries, or derived datasets ("Licensed Data") under an accepted quote or written agreement, the following licence applies unless varied in writing.

  • (a) Grant and scope. We grant the named purchaser a non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use the Licensed Data for internal professional purposes, including exploration, evaluation, research, and CCS or geothermal assessment. Unless a multi-seat or site licence is purchased, use is limited to a single organisation at a single nominated site. Enterprise, affiliate, or multi-site use requires a separate site licence.
  • (b) Redistribution. The purchaser must not sell, sub-licence, publish, or otherwise distribute the Licensed Data, in whole or in part, to any third party, including affiliates and contractors, except contractors acting solely on the purchaser's behalf and bound by equivalent terms.
  • (c) Derivative works. The purchaser may create interpretations and derivative products for internal use. Distribution of derivatives that would allow reconstruction of substantial portions of the Licensed Data is prohibited.
  • (d) Attribution. Where the licence permits any external presentation of results, the purchaser will attribute the data source to Occam Technology where reasonably practicable.
  • (e) Term and termination. The licence is perpetual for delivered data unless terminated for breach. On termination for breach the purchaser must cease use and destroy all copies, except where retention is required by law.
  • (f) Governing law. This licence is governed by the laws of South Australia, consistent with the Governing Law section below.

8. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Occam Technology excludes all liability for any loss or damage arising from your use of the Site or reliance on its content. Nothing in these terms excludes or limits any consumer guarantees under the Australian Consumer Law that cannot be excluded by law.

9. Governing Law

These terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of South Australia. Any disputes arising from these terms or your use of the Site are subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of South Australia.

10. Changes to These Terms

We may update these terms from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated revision date. Continued use of the Site after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.
